Other Family Medicine Related Services Include:

X-Rays:

We can provide diagnostic x-ray services here in the clinic to evaluate a variety of conditions. Your doctor can help you decide if you need an x-ray, and can review it the same day. In most cases a radiologist (an x-ray specialist) will also review your x-ray. If necessary, we can provide an order for a more specialized radiology testing (like a CT scan or MRI) to be done at another facility of your choice.

Vision Screening:

We offer vision screening, which can be done at your routine annual exam or if you have a specific concern about your vision.

Electrocardiogram (EKG):

An EKG is a “heart tracing” that can detect a variety of heart diseases.

Spirometry:

Spirometry is used in the evaluation of lung complaints, such as cough and shortness of breath.

Allergy Testing:

We can provide a blood draw to determine if you have specific allergies and then process a referral to an allergy specialist if needed.

Dermatology:

We provide acne treatment, skin cancer diagnosis and treatment including biopsy, wart treatment, and treatment of skin infections.

Orthopedics:

We can help evaluate and treat fractures, sprains, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other orthopedic problems. Osteopathic adjustments are available in clinic. Our in-house x-ray helps you get answers quickly.

Mental Health:

We can help with anxiety, depression, insomnia and other mental health issues.

Tobacco Cessation:

We can provide the tools you need to have the highest chance of quitting tobacco. New prescription medications are available.

Surgical Procedures:

We have two procedure rooms and can perform no-scalpel vasectomies, skin biopsies, laceration repairs, skin cancer treatments, and removal of fingernails/toenails.

Important Tips to Promote Efficiency:

You must be very clear when requesting an appointment. Please specify exactly what type of appointment you would like and which physician you would prefer. Appointments are generally scheduled to be thirty minutes long for single “uncomplicated” problems. Examples of uncomplicated problems are sinusitis, ear infection, shoulder pain, or hypertension. Patients with multiple problems should request extra time when scheduling their appointments.

In consideration for other patients and the doctor, we require at least a twenty-four hour notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Appointment times must be honored.

Financial Responsibility:

As a courtesy to our patients, Hillside Family Medicine will bill most U.S. health plans. Your deductible, co-pay and/or coinsurance will be collected in full at the time of service. The amount of payment due at the time of visit depends on your insurance plan. We will also collect on any balance due on your account at that time. Please see our full Financial Policy for additional details.

We are preferred providers and considered in network with multiple medical insurance plans – Premera BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, Multiplan, PHCS and Beech Street.

We strongly recommend that patients verify directly with their medical insurance plan which provider(s) are considered as in network prior to scheduling an appointment. There are multiple insurance plans that operate under a separate subsidiary network and do not adhere to the network policies of the main plan.

We are not contracted with Champus/Tricare, Medicare, Medicaid, or Denali Kid Care and are not able to see patients who are covered by these insurances.

Services Not Provided:

We do not perform in-patient hospital care or obstetrics. If you should require non-specialist hospitalization, we have contracted with internists at the Alaska Hospitalist Group to admit and care for our in-patients. Upon discharge they return our patients back to us with detailed information regarding the hospitalization and any necessary follow-up care. By calling the clinic after normal business hours, your doctors can be paged. At our earliest opportunity we will assist you in determining the best course of action, whether home care, urgent care, or the emergency room. If you are being evaluated in the Emergency Room and require general admittance to a hospital, ask the physician to page the Alaska Hospitalist doctor on call.
